Food Service Update

We welcome our K-12 students to Hybrid Learning.  Our district's food service staff is up for the challenge in making sure there are healthy meals available to your student during their in-person school days, as well as their distance learning days.  We are able to offer school meals FREE for now, until we receive further guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education and the USDA.

Montevideo High School - Breakfast & lunch will be served to in-person students in their classrooms during TA, and Period 5.  Students may be given the option of bringing home 4 sack lunch meals (including breakfast & lunch items) at the end of the school day for their distance learning days.  A drive up meal pick-up service will be offered at the MHS main gym doors from 11:00 - 11:30.  This would be for any distance learning household who didn't take sack lunches on their in-person day, or choice distance learning households.

Montevideo Middle School - Breakfast and lunch will be served to in-person students in their classrooms during the normal times (7:45 & period 5).  At the end of their in-person day, each student leaving the building may take a sack lunch (including breakfast & lunch items) for the next day - their distance learning day.  A drive-up meal pick-up service will be offered at MMS in the curved driveway each school day from 12:00 - 12:30.  This would be for any distance learning household who didn't take a sack lunch on their in-person day, or choice distance learning households.

Ramsey Elementary - Breakfast and lunch will served to in-person students in their classrooms during the normal times.  At the end of their in-person day, each student leaving the building may take a sack lunch (including breakfast & lunch items) for the next day - their distance learning day.  A drive-up meal pick-up service will be offered in the Ramsey staff parking lot from 12:00 - 12:30 each school day.  This would be for any distance learning household who didn't take a lunch on their in-person day, or choice distance learning households.

Sanford Education Center - Morning Kindergarteners will receive breakfast in their classrooms, and sack lunches to take home.  Afternoon kindergarteners will eat lunch in their classroom, and receive breakfast as they are leaving for the next day.  Questions about meals or snacks for Thunder Hawk care, Headstart, or Small World Nursery School should be directed to the teacher or coordinator of those programs.  As of right now, Sanford Education Center will not have a pick-up site for meals due to the safety of little ones coming and going in that parking lot mid-day.

Things to know:
The above information can change day by day.  We may find that something works better after a few days.

Parents or students may pick up meals.  Households may pick up meals for any student at any site.  This is allowed because right now, we are following the "summer food service" guidelines.

MDE and/or USDA may make the decision at any time to go back to the National School Lunch program.  It is not guaranteed that the funding for the FREE meals will last until December 31.

It is still very important for households to fill out and return the Application for Educational benefits.  In October, anyone who hasn't returned a 2020-21 application will go to paid status for school meals.  The results of the application also provide much needed information about our district for state reporting.

Please understand that as much as we would like to have a bus meal delivery system in place right now, we do not.  The bus garage has been working very hard on putting together a schedule for transportation for hybrid learning (including AM & PM kindergarten) & to allow social distancing on the buses to keep students and the drivers safe.  Bus meal delivery may be an option later.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Best wishes to you and your student during Hybrid Learning. If you have any questions, please contact your building principal or the district office at 320-269-8833.
